As per the Ministry of MSME, the sector contributed around 3.6 crore jobs (30%) in the IT sector. Indian IT industry is likely to create over 1.4 million new age jobs by 2027 and is expected to be driven by emerging technologies like Big Data, cybersecurity, Internet of things (IoT), etc. Surprisingly, 60% of the 9.1 million IT job posting in 2017 was in the new-age roles with data scientists, machine learning designer, and IoT designer being the most sought after professionals.
“The top 10 technology trends impacting Indian job scenario include cybersecurity/data security, Big Data, Data analysis visualisation, IoT, Business Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Virtualisation/Software defined infrastructure, Converged Infrastructure and cloud solutions/technologies.”
Up-skilling and re-skilling also seem to an integral part of the change. With 22% of IT professional self-funded their certification courses and about 50% taking one or more training courses in 2017 reflects the growing importance of upskilling in the dynamic technological landscape. Freshers getting relevant job opportunities after such certifications have significantly increased to 15%. Interestingly, 70% of IT-based enterprises prefer aspirants with IT certifications when hiring or moving them to the next level.
This boost in IT opportunities put India’s MSME sector into the driver’s seat of employment generation in the country. The sector needs a robust market-oriented strategy to have this turned into a reality.
